MESSAGE FROM: Mike Summers, London
I have free jazz musicians’ listings to offer on a website which unusually caters to early jazz styles as well as other styles. Remember Dial-a-Chap? This is like an online version with lots of knobs. Go to www.ukjazzplace.co.uk

MESSAGE FROM: D Diment, Slacton, Norfolk
It’s great to find some Ken Colyer recordings on the web as I lost all of my Ken Colyer records when I moved. In the 50s I was a regular at Studio 51 the Ken Colyer Club but at my age you some times forget the good time till you play one of his recordings.

MESSAGE FROM: Barry Price (Chairman KCT)
Brian Savegar died prematurely in April this year near his home in Provence.
Although Brian started out as a trumpet player he decided to devote his particular talent to the film industry.
In the mid eighties he won an Oscar for Art Direction in the film "Room with a view".
Brian played with Acker in the late fifties and he continued playing semi professionally with Pete Jackman and John Clark at the Rose and Crown Sandhurst.
During the period that he was in New Orleans making films he regularly played with local bands at the bars and clubs in the city.
This weekend, to commemorate his life, in the village in France where he lived the villagers will be putting on a Jazz Weekend with a parade in Riez on Saturday morning and a concert in the Roumoulles village hall on Saturday night.
On Sunday they are having a BBQ on the village green with a French New Orleans Jazz Band.
So if you can come on down and for a few euros you will have a great time
Barry Price

MESSAGE FROM: Brian Wood, Walmer, Kent
Members might like to know that Ken's friend in New Orleans, Dick Allen, died last week. The early years of the KCT tours to New Orleans were made more pleasurable by Dick's illuminating memories of the time Ken spent in the city. An obituary with full details can be found on the Times-Picayune website.

MESSAGE FROM: Brian Wood, Walmer, Kent
In the welcoming brass band to greet the first KCT tour to New Orleans in 1992 was trombonist Mick Burns. Sadly, Mick died last week. Early on Mick played trumpet with Colin Kingwell and others for thirty years until he switched to trombone in 1989. Leader of the Louisiana Shakers. Also played with the Rue Conti Jazz Band since its beginnings in 1989, and subsequently became its leader. He was the author of The Great Olympia Brass Band; in 2006 Louisiana State University Press published his excellent Keeping The Beat On The Street, and later this year LSU will publish his third book, this time on Barry Martyn.

MESSAGE FROM:Michael Tuckey, Maidstone, Kent
Re Stuart's query about the KC line-up at the 100 Club 22/12/82 - it sounds like Bill Stotesbury bjo and I suspect that
the rest are Tony Pyke clt, Ray Smith or Johnny Parker pno, Paul Rosenburg drs, Ken Ames or Arthur Bird bs, and the
tbn sounds like Barry Weston but is more likely to be John Beecham if his style is similar.
Mike Tuckey
P.S.Having listened again I'm sure it is not Barry Weston on trombone - it's far
too staccato.
